Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA)
Weeneebayko General Hospital (WGH) is a 36-bed regional hospital that serves several communities located along the shore of James Bay and Hudson Bay in Northern Ontario.
In 2012, Agnew Peckham worked with WAHA to plan a new hospital that will replace the existing wood structure hospital. We led the development of a Stage 1 Proposal Submission that included WAHA’s regional future service delivery model, master program for new WGH, ambulatory health centre and Kashechewan health care facilities, and WGH’s master plan options for long-term redevelopment. In 2016, we led the development of a Stage 2 Functional Program Submission for the new WGH and ambulatory health centre in collaboration with Parkin Architects Limited. Our work at Weeneebayko is ongoing.
Agnew Peckham implemented the following key strategies during programming to help advance WAHA's capital projects:
- Undertaking extensive community consultation and engagement in all WAHA communities
- Focusing on the smaller hospital size, remote location, implementable service models, and diverse community needs
- Providing project advocacy, contemporary benchmarking, strategic advice and client support during provincial and federal government engagement
- Engaging the Northeast LHIN, external consultants, and WAHA executive team to develop new program/service models, e.g., proposed mental health and addictions service model
- Utilizing a client-focused consulting approach to spend blocks of time on-site during functional program development
“WAHA has enjoyed a long working history with Agnew Peckham, who guided and supported our organization from preliminary Stage 0 pre-capital planning through to the development of Stage 3 functional output specifications. Agnew Peckham’s team of consultants was professional, dedicated and personable. Their unparalleled experience and strong commitment have been instrumental in advancing our new hospital and health centre.”
